The Riverina and the South West Slopes

[edit]

There are places where the Riverina is part of the South West Slopes. For instance, the Narrandera Shire is in the Riverina and in the South West Slopes. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 02:16, 18 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

If you are talking about the bioregions then no, they're adjacent and don't overlap, as defined by Environment and Heritage. Compare these not-very-good maps of South Western Slopes and Riverina. Whether the Commons categories are meant to represent these two things I don't know, but they probably should as both are subcats of Category:IBRA regions. Sam Wilson 06:08, 18 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hmmm... that seems reasonable. OK, I'll need to fix this. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 07:46, 18 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
So looking at this again... I'm looking at Regions of New South Wales and it clearly shows that the Riverina is a subset of the South West Slopes. I'm using the informal divisions, which looks about right. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 07:51, 18 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Chris.sherlock2: Yes, I think Category:Riverina should probably be defined as the informal region, and a separate Category:Riverina (bioregion) be used for the specific IBRA region. Then, Category:South West Slopes, New South Wales (the bioregion) can contain Category:Riverina but shouldn't contain Category:Riverina (bioregion). Sam Wilson 08:20, 18 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
That is actually a damn good idea. The problem as always is that non-IVRA regions aren’t formally defined. The Wikipedia definition is probably the best we have. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 09:23, 18 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
